for your upcoming Civil War Debate!

• You will have 1 min and 30 seconds to speak
• You should get into your character
  • Create a costume from what you have at home
  • Speak and act during the debate as you imagine your character would
• You will be sending a weekly email to your opponent and to the same characters in the other class (topics described below)
• You will need to create a name card for your character (large enough to be seen across the classroom)

Topics for the emails you will be writing each week to your opponent in the debate. Each email should be a paragraph for each section A) and B)

1. A) Detailed explanation of the way of life in your region (North or South) DUE Friday 3/9
2. A) Reply to last week's email stating your shock at how different your opponents region is (2 respectful sentences). B) Now express your professional thoughts to your opponent about slavery and the issues surrounding it (Missouri Compromise, etc). DUE Friday 3/16
3. A) Respectfully reply to your opponents thoughts on slavery (2 respectful sentences). B) Now share your thoughts on if the two countries should or should not be two separate countries (Issues that led up to southern states seceding. Does South Carolina have the right to secede? Does the Federal Government have right to force them to stay?). DUE Friday 3/23
4. A) Send your opponent an invitation (or accept your opponents already sent invitation) to debate so you can settle if the North and South should be two separate countries. DUE Friday 3/30
